Faces Behind Our Success
Rick Darby, Esq. has been a member of the VYCC Board of Directors since 2003 and currently serves as the organization's Vice Chair. A partner in the firm Darby Stearns Thorndike Kolter & Ware LLP, Rick has been of invaluable assistance on many VYCC projects related to the West Monitor Barn, and most recently served as the VYCC's legal counsel for the acquisition of the East Monitor Barn property. A master of details, Rick's thoughtful and deliberate manner and big smile set him apart. We are grateful for all of the pro bono work he has done to secure both Monitor Barns. Thank you Rick for all of your hard work and your incredible commitment to the VYCC!

Community Meeting
Today the Vermont Youth Conservation Corps announces the acquisition of the East Monitor Barn Property with help from the Vermont Community Foundation. The VYCC will have two years to raise the purchase price and develop a plan for the site. The property is adjacent to the VYCC’s Leadership, Education and Training Center at the West Monitor Barn on Route 2 in Richmond.
On May 8th, at 6 p.m., the VYCC, Richmond Land Trust, Richmond Area Business Association, Richmond Historical Society and the Richmond Creative Communities are co-convening a public forum regarding this property. There will be site tours, refreshments, and an informational meeting aimed at giving the community the chance to help envision the programmatic uses for the property.

Crew of the Month
Mud Season is well under way and so is the Conservation and Community Leadership Program at the VYCC. The 2008 field season kicked off with Field Staff training in March and the soon-to-be Crew Leaders are currently in the field getting their bodies and minds in shape for the upcoming summer. In partnership with the Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service the Leaders have been slogging their way through three weeks of watershed restoration work in Franklin County. The CCL Crew Leaders will be managing their crews in the complete operations of four VYCC run Vermont State Parks and the U.S. Forest Service Moosalamoo Campground this summer.
For more information about the CCL Program contact Program Manager Keegan Tierney at keegan@vycc.org or 802.434.3969 ext. 141.
