Opening Day Celebration for Milton's New Lamoille River Walk
Join the Vermont Conservation Commission, the Vermont Youth Conservation Corps, and the Vermont Agency of Transportation on Saturday, June 21st, to celebrate Milton's newly constructed woodland trail which runs through the town along the Lamoille River. The opening day celebration and dedication ceremony of the Recreation Foot Path will begin at 10 a.m. at the CVPS trailhead and be followed by a walk along the river path. Parking will be available at the CVPS Route 7 Park with carpooling to the trailhead.
The Vermont Youth Conservation Corps has been involved with the Lamoille River Walk project since 2002. VYCC crews have worked to build new trail and address many of the drainage issues leading to erosion. They have also built stone steps, a staircase, and a bridge along with clearing brush and painting trail blazes. The crews also constructed a boardwalk to combat erosion issues and have built puncheon bridges over wet spots on the trail. Work done by the crews has lead to canoe access improvements and better water quality in the Lamoille River.
